Back to My Money Saving Diary Blog

Unfortunately I have a medical condition which requires me to take medication every day, indefinitely.
This in itself isn't good, but to add insult to injury I also still have to pay for my prescriptions. I currently have 4 different types of medication to buy each month and there are instances where I have to purchase additional medication as well.
Just on the basic medication I was spending £28.40 per month, that's £340.80 per year minimum.
Then I learned about the pre paid prescription which currently costs £104 for 12 months (I paid slightly less as I bought it before the last price increase) which is saving me a minimum of around £240 per year!
That really is some saving and I am so glad that I did go ahead and do it, though obviously I would prefer it if medical conditions for which medication is needed indefinitely made prescriptions free of charge.
I wasn't made aware of the pre paid prescription, although it had briefly been mentioned to me years previous when I was only taking 1 type of medication per year, and it was this that made me look into it further. There is even the facility now to pay monthly by direct debit which is great as most of us don't have a spare £100 or so lying about.
