The lender is to provide the insurance for all its UK customers.

Barclaycard has announced plans to provide worldwide travel insurance for UK customers.

The UK's largest credit card provider is introducing cover for parties of up to six people, including winter sports cover.

The free travel insurance will be available from September 1st 2005 and customers must book their holiday through the Barclaycard Travel Service to qualify for free travel insurance. Barclaycard has around 11.2 million UK card customers.

The Barclaycard Travel Service, operated by Thomas Cook, provides a five per cent discount off the prices from over 120 participating operators, including Kuoni, Virgin Holidays, Thomson, P&O Cruises and British Airways Holidays.

There is no two per cent credit card surcharge applied to holidays booked via the travel service and paid for with a Barclaycard.

Barclaycard Consumer Affairs Director Mark Gonnella said "Barclaycard holders can save hundreds of pounds with the introduction of free travel insurance and with the discounts available from the Barclaycard Travel Service.

"Barclaycard also provides a free emergency card replacement and cash advance service, so cardholders know they can travel in confidence."
