Credit card customers are being urged to look around to get the best deal and potentially save themselves pounds.

New figures released by Moneyextra state that individuals who track down the best deal on finance products were able to save almost £4,000 in the third quarter of this year.

Moneyextra spokesman Robin Amlot explained: "Recent retail statistics suggest shopping may be going out of fashion among consumers but shopping around for a financial bargain remains a powerful way of putting money back in your wallet or purse."

Of the benefits of shopping around the most apparent gains were among canny credit card customers. Looking for the best deal on plastic products could lead to whopping £630 saving, Moneyextra reports.

This is despite the fact that many credit card firms have been putting up rates and taking measures to reduce the losses they make on so-called "card tarts".
