Life insurance customers 'should make sure they are getting value for money'

Consumers taking out cheap life insurance should make sure they are getting value for money, protection specialist LifeSearch has advised.

It said that as families struggle with rising living costs, getting good value in terms of protection products is more important than ever.

The company claimed there are five indicators of a quality life insurance provider. The first of these is having a dedicated claims desk to ensure customers receive their payouts.

Firms should also recommend income protection over accident, sickness and unemployment policies and record all underwriting and sales telephone calls, LifeSearch insisted.

As well as this, they should offer hidden benefits such as care and counselling services and offer trust advice to customers when they set up their policy.

Matt Morris, senior policy adviser at LifeSearch, said: "Cash is becoming tighter for everyone so it is crucial that the customer's time and money is well spent."

Research carried out recently by NFU Mutual revealed that many rural residents do not view cheap life insurance as priority, with 44 per cent seeing it as a non-essential form of protection.
