Young drivers being spoiled, survey suggests
A survey has revealed that many young people today are driving better cars at an earlier stage thanks to their parents' generosity, but that they may be missing out on cheap car insurance quotes.
Cheap car insurance quotes for young people may be a thing of the past, according to research by Tescocompare.com.The website conducted a survey recently which revealed that many young drivers in the UK are being given a better car as their first set of wheels than people of their parents' generation.
More than two-thirds of young drivers today said that their car of choice is a supermini, such as a Vauxhall Corsa or a Ford Fiesta and over one-third are given their first car for free.
By contrast, their parents often inherited a hand-me-down hatchback such as a VW Golf. One in ten were even driving family saloons like the Renault Laguna or Ford Mondeo.
However, Debra Williams from Tescocompare.com, said: "The fact that the vehicles [young people] typically drive are higher in value could have an impact on the cost of their car insurance."
Recently, the AA advised that the first quarter of the year is the best time to look for cheap car insurance quotes, because many insurers keep their premiums down in order to attract renewal customers.
