Home insurance guide from esure

The insurer has issued advice for the summer season.

With the summer months approaching, many Britons will be spending more time in the garden. However, they could be putting their belongings at risk, according to a new home insurance guide from esure.

The insurance provider revealed results of a survey which found that 93 per cent of people regularly leave items in the garden overnight, including tools and toys - which could tempt opportunistic thieves.

Furthermore, 30 per cent of homeowners leave non-garden items in outbuildings such as sheds as they do not have the space indoors.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure home insurance, said that people need to be aware of security in their gardens and check their home insurance information.

"Some cover could be too low, especially in the event of an 'outdoor' theft where a shed is bulging with valuables or the lawn is strewn with desirables that are easy to snatch," he warned.

Meanwhile, research by Halifax Home Insurance has found that a third of UK households intend to carry out DIY over the Easter weekend.
