In a tale that is sure to inspire lovers planning budget weddings across the UK, one Grimsby couple have paid less than £2,500 for their big day and the honeymoon.Nicola Blakey and Mike Gwaspari told the Grimsby Telegraph that scouring the sales and turning to family and friends has saved them thousands of pounds.
The pair revealed that they paid a total of £219 for ten bridesmaid dresses, £250 for the bride's dress and £44 for the wedding rings.
They also asked Ms Blakey's mother to make the cake and relatives to look after the photography.
"Wedding days are very special, but they do not have to break the bank," said Ms Blakey.
"In today's recession and poor economical and financial climate, every penny counts."
According to research by You and Your Wedding last year, the average cost of getting married is £20,273.
