Money off gift vouchers 'help boost Bedfordshire economy'
A town in Bedfordshire has launched a money off gift voucher scheme in an effort to provide a boost for its local economy during the downturn.
Money off gift vouchers are being offered by authorities in a Bedfordshire town who believe they may help pump money into the local economy.The BedfordBID gift vouchers are on sale at the tourist information office in denominations of £5, £10 and £20, according to the BBC.
BedfordBID money off coupons are redeemable at many local businesses. The scheme's organisers hope managers may buy them to use as an incentive for staff or customers. Bedford College has already purchased £50,000 worth of the vouchers to give as gifts to staff and students.
Sera Onbasi, the owner of local business the Poppins Cafe, accepts the vouchers and told the BBC: "If they can use vouchers to pay for our food then it is good for our customers, for us and for the town centre."
Recently, home improvements store Habitat announced it would be giving away money off coupons to customers who register on its website.
