Money saving tips for motorists missing MOTs

A website has issued some money saving tips for motorists who miss their MOTs after research found that it is a common problem in the UK.

Motorists who miss their MOTs can end up paying up to £1,000 in fines and so may want to take heed of the money saving tips issued by uSwitch.com recently.

The website has launched an MOT reminder service after a survey it conducted revealed that more than two-thirds of drivers in the UK have driven past their MOT expiry date illegally.

Nearly 80 per cent of those who forget about their MOT claimed that sheer absent-mindedness is to blame for the oversight, while 11 per cent claimed that changing their car makes them miss the renewal date.

Mark Monteiro, insurance expert at uSwitch.com, said: "Failure to remember your MOT renewal date is not only an offence, but the potential safety and financial consequences are a hefty price to pay for an innocent lapse of memory."

Recently, the government announced a car scrappage scheme that could see many people trading in their old cars for newer vehicles, which do not need an MOT for their first three years on the roads.
