Internet banking security systems updated

NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland have updated their internet banking security systems.

NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) have announced changes to their internet banking security systems which they claim will help reduce the potential for breaches.

The two financial service providers, which are both part of the RBS group, are introducing an online security system called the Rapport, from software provider Trusteer.

Rapport will be used on all basic bank accounts offered by the banking groups. In a statement, the banks quoted research which revealed that more than half of online malware attacks go undetected.

Gavin Coull, e-Crime Prevention Manager for RBS Group, said: "RBS Group is committed to providing the most secure online banking environment possible and has taken considerable steps over the past few years to warn customers about online fraud."

The banking group's websites regularly exhort customers never to give away details of their full password, pin number or special ID number online, lest they fall victim to phishing attacks via email.
