Home contents insurance deal offered by Nationwide

Households looking to save money on their home insurance bill may be interested in a new deal from Nationwide.

Those requiring both home contents insurance and building cover could save money if they choose Nationwide as a provider, as the group is currently offering a discount when the two services are purchased together.

Customers could receive 20 per cent off the cost of their home insurance premiums for up to two years by going with the building society, provided they renew the cover product after the first 12 months.

An extra £20 a year could also be saved if the home contents insurance customer also has a current account with Nationwide, while online purchasers will receive the standard ten per cent discount already available.

Robin Bailey, insurance director at Nationwide, said: "With growing access to comparison sites, and consumers concerned about price in the current climate, there is a greater tendency for people to switch to new deals in a very competitive marketplace.

"By buying a home insurance policy with Nationwide, our customers can benefit from discounts this year and next, as well as independently acclaimed cover and service. Therefore, there should be no need for them to go anywhere else!" he added.

The home insurance deal currently being offered by Tesco Finance is not as good as the firm makes it out to be, one financial advice website recently warned.

Money Saving Expert claimed the 50 per cent discount that Tesco says it is offering is not actually as big a saving as it sounds, because the company normally gives online customers 35 per cent off home insurance anyway.
