Cheap bargain deals on Apple iPhone?
With Orange and Vodafone set to offer the Apple iPhone in the near future, competiton with O2 could bring bargains to consumers.
With Orange and Vodafone announcing they have struck a deal with Apple to end O2's monopoly on the iPhone in the UK, consumers may need to wait to see if cheap bargain deals are offered on the devices before making a purchase.According to Shane Richmond, head of technology editorial for the Daily Telegraph, it is "likely" that the two new iPhone providers will want to get as many customers as possible by offering discounts on the mobiles.
With Christmas the usual time for cheap bargain deals to appear on all products, Mr Richmond wrote in the newspaper that a price war could begin in the months leading up to the holiday.
Consumers can also expect to see prices remain around the same for the handset and a monthly tariff, but the best bargains will be found by checking how many minutes or texts are included in the packages.
Mr Richmond said: "The networks are keeping quiet about pricing so far and we also don't know how they plan to play their hands.
"O2 and Orange could offer their best possible deals at Christmas, hoping to lure into contracts those who might be tempted to wait for Vodafone," he added.
Orange and T-Mobile recently announced that they are to merge into one entity, prompting concerns about whether the deal will see cheap bargain deals being offered to consumers.
The amalgamation will make the joint firm the largest on the UK market with 28.4 million customers, beating current biggest shareholder O2 by ten per cent to take 37 per cent.
