Online discount voucher codes 'more acceptable'

A new survey has shown that Brits are more likely to use a discount voucher code on the internet than a coupon on the high street.

A new study has found that UK consumers are more willing to use discount voucher codes when shopping on the internet rather than handing one over in a restaurant.

Conducted by discount voucher code website Savoo.co.uk, the research discovered that 15 million Brits are too embarrassed to use a coupon when out in public, but are happy to do so under the anonymity of the internet.

The site, which operates in both the US and the UK, told Retail Digital that the latter has only recently developed a taste for hunting cheap bargain deals using vouchers, which may explain the disparity between online and offline.

According to Situl Thakrar, an online marketing professional, the discount voucher code market "is rapidly changing, certainly in the UK where there is a huge appetite for it".

While Brits have admitted to feeling uneasy about handing over a coupon on the high street, the website has seen demand for vouchers increase by 400 per cent in the last 12 months.

Loren Bendele, chief executive officer of Savoo.co.uk, said: "There's a change going on right now. We're seeing that while people might not be willing to pull out a voucher at a restaurant, they're more than willing to do it online, anonymously."

Money saving tips website myvouchercodes.co.uk has announced that it will be offering consumers the chance to grab a bargain at Argos and House of Fraser this Christmas.

The site will be releasing a book of discount voucher codes for the catalogue retailer and department store over the festive period, which will be sent to one million homes across the UK, Retail Week reported.
