Consumers unhappy with Npower utility bills

Only 51 per cent of customers are currently happy with utility bill prices.
A new poll has found that consumers are unhappy with the service Npower is providing when they look at their utility bills.Financial advice website uSwitch.com conducted the survey to find out which energy supplier has the most satisfied customers and the Swindon-based firm came bottom of the list for the second year running.
Only 39.8 per cent of its customers are satisfied with the company, compared to Scottish and Southern Energy, with 60 per cent of its clients believing that its utility bills are at a reasonable price.
Overall, 52 per cent are happy with customer service and only 51 per cent of people believe their utility bills constitute value for money, despite an average four per cent cut in prices this year.
However, Joe Malinowski, of energy price comparison website Theenergyshop.com, told the website that there is still room for further utility bill reductions.
He said: "The last time wholesale gas prices were at these levels (March 2007), energy bills were some 20 per cent lower than they are today.
"Energy suppliers have seen increases in some of their other costs, but that still leaves plenty of scope for another round of hefty price cuts in the very near term."
Five million over-65s are to forego heating their homes this winter in order to cut down the costs of utility bills, recent research revealed.
Conducted by charity Age Concern, the survey found that 38 per cent of elderly homeowners will try to cut down on gas and 41 per cent will reduce electricity usage over the next few months amid fears utility bills will be too high.
