Those wondering what to do during the national postal service strike have been given advice from one expert.
With Royal Mail staff planning a mass national strike this week, one expert has offered some consumer rights advice to those needing to send letters and parcels in the near future.According to the BBC, Royal Mail's Special Delivery service is normally unaffected by strikes such as the one taking place this Thursday and Friday (October 22nd to 23rd) and it advises individuals with important letters to use it.
Although it is a more expensive option that standard post, the Royal Mail will be putting a greater focus on urgent packages.
The consumer rights advice group Consumer Focus told the news provider that alternatives to the national postal service are also available.
One is the Service Point scheme, operated by DHL and which can be found at 391 WH Smith stores across the country, offering delivery to any point in the UK and even overseas.
The BBC added: "The Royal Mail's own specialist parcel delivery service - Parcelforce - is also a possible alternative, as this is not affected by the threat of strike action, which is instead limited to the Royal Mail's standard letters and parcels division."
The Communication and Workers Union recently warned that the national postal strike, in addition to the numerous regional walk-outs, could mean that any Christmas cards should be sent now.
According to the group, the already large backlog of 25 million unsorted letters, parcels and bills could see workers dealing with the mail until Christmas.
