Scottish Power launches utility bill offensive
Scottish Power have moved to second in the pricing charts after reducing utility bill prices to £952.
Major energy supplier Scottish Power has secured its place as having the second cheapest utility bills on the market after slashing its rates.The firm's online energy plan has had its price reduced by two per cent, equating to a £23 saving on utility bill costs, in retaliation to recent moves by newcomers OVO Energy and First:Utility.
With yearly costs at £952, it now sits just behind OVO in the cheapest utility bill table, which charges £921 annually for energy, while First:Utility's iSave deal lies at £954 over 12 months.
According to uSwitch.com, the move is timely as more consumers look towards smaller suppliers for their energy.
Research by the website shows that only one per cent of switchers were choosing small firms a year ago, while nearly one-third are doing so today.
Will Marples, energy expert at uSwitch.com, said: "I'm not surprised that one of the big six has fought back - having two alternative suppliers offering the lowest prices in the market was great news for consumers, but a serious concern for established suppliers.
It meant that consumers had a serious choice between going with one of the big six or trying out a smaller player."
A poll recently found that consumers are unhappy with the service Npower is providing when they look at their utility bills.
Financial advice website uSwitch.com conducted the survey to find out which energy supplier has the most satisfied customers and the Swindon-based firm came bottom of the list for the second year running, according to the Times.
