Confusing auto insurance policies anger Brits

Close to half of motorists find car insurance policies too hard to understand fully, according to new research by swiftcover.com.
A new survey from swiftcover.com found that 42 per cent of drivers taking out auto insurance are not certain about some aspects of their policies, with 18 per cent claiming that providers deliberately set out to confuse them.
Some 17 per cent of respondents said they thought fully comprehensive meant they can drive any car and still claim on their own policy, 51 per cent have no idea what material facts are and 23 per cent are stumped by the concept of voluntary excess.
Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com, said: " Car insurance is very complex, so this means that the wording used in policy terms and conditions can be fairly complicated.
"Some drivers struggle with the terms used in their insurance, but it's vital that they read and understand their insurance policies so they know exactly what they are covered for."
The Daily Mail recently recommended that those seeking a cheaper auto insurance deal make sure that they do what they can to keep premiums down, including limiting mileage, which means less time on the road and a lower chance of having an accident.
It was also advised that drivers take the Institute of Advanced Motorists test to prove to their insurer that they are a 'good' motorist and to lock up their car in a garage to reduce the risk of theft.
