Cheap rail travel with Virgin Trains this week

The Scottish Sun is offering a discount voucher code for cheap rail travel with Virgin Trains between London and Glasgow.

A new deal offering up to 50 per cent off the price of a Virgin Trains advance return ticket from Glasgow to London has seen cheap rail travel return to Scotland.

Readers of the Scottish Sun will be able to take advantage of the discounts by collecting at least three of the five passwords the newspaper will be printing throughout this week and entering them onto a special website to receive a unique pin code.

The code, which is then entered into the booking form on the Virgin Trains website, will allow travelers to journey in standard class from Glasgow to London for £8.75 or £26 for a first class seat.

Cheap rail travel is also available for those wanting to go from Glasgow to Preston, costing £4.25 for standard class and £16.75 for first class on journeys between January 1st and February 5th 2010.

"But don't delay, there are only a limited number of pin codes available and demand is bound to be high," the newspaper warned.

"Pin codes will be released in equal quantities from December 9th to 13th, so don't worry if you're not successful the first time, you can try again up until December 13th."

Financially-troubled train operator National Express recently blocked plans for cheap rail travel on the East Coast line, despite management being transferred to the public sector, the Guardian reported.

The company handed over ownership of the London to Edinburgh line to the government last month, but insisted that a five per cent fares fare rise be introduced to reduce the debt it owes to the Department for Transport.
