Ireland launches rail travel discount voucher codes
Over 66-year-olds are to receive discount voucher codes for reduced rail travel in Ireland in an effort to boost tourism.
Brits hoping to take a short break in Ireland over the Christmas holidays could take advantage of cheap rail travel in the country thanks to a discount voucher code campaign being run by the government.Foreign visitors of age 66 or over will receive the discount voucher codes in order to get money off the cost of a train ticket with Ireland's rail operator Iarnród Éireann, it was announced in the Republic's Budget report on Wednesday (December 9th).
Finance Minister Brian Lenihan revealed that excise duty on alcohol will also be reduced in an attempt by the Department of Art, Sport and Tourism to increase the number of people holidaying in the country.
The Irish Hotel Foundation has commented on the move, describing the discount voucher codes as "creative" and "a great step in the right direction", the Irish Times revealed.
Tom Haughey, chairman of the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation, also said: "Early signs of economic recovery exist in our principal source markets - the United States, Britain, France and Germany.
"It is critical that Irish tourism exploits the opportunity which this presents."
Cheap rail travel has returned to Scotland this week thanks to a discount voucher code scheme offering up to 50 per cent off the price of a Virgin Trains advance return ticket from Glasgow to London.
Readers of the Scottish Sun could take advantage of the discounts by collecting at least three of the five passwords the newspaper printed throughout this week and entering them onto a special website to receive a unique pin code.
