British holiday makers heading for the east coast of America are being advised to ensure that their travel insurance offers them adequate cover as the storm season begins.
Hurricane Dennis has already hit Florida, and weather experts are warning that the coming months could see more storms than ever in the region.
According to the Tropical Storm Risk index (TSR) the USA could be hit by a further 15 tropical storms before the season is over, nine of which are expected to be hurricanes; making it the most active forecast since 1950.
Hurricane Dennis is the first hurricane to hit the states in July since 1916, and has already caused devastation before the start of the traditional storm season.
As such many tourists were caught off guard and without comprehensive travel cover.
As a result travel insurance providers expect to see an increase in claims from British holiday makers planning trips to the area over the coming months.
