INSURER URGES HOMEOWNERS TO PREPARE FOR FLOODING

People living in high flood risk areas should make sure they have prepared adequately as autumn's bad weather sets in.

Figures released by MORE THAN insurance state two million households are at risk of flooding and with the floods of October 2000 damaging 10,000 homes at a cost of £1.3 billion the insurer urges people to be prepared.

Head of insurance David Pitt said: "The autumn of 2000 was the wettest in the UK for 270 years and led to the damage of 10,000 properties. Many people are still at risk of flood especially as climatic changes take place, so homeowners and businesses must be prepared."

As well as ensuring you are properly covered by your insurance policy and keeping all documentation in a watertight bag, homeowners are encouraged to liaise with their local authority if they live in a high-risk property.

As the bad weather approaches MORE THAN also recommends preparing sandbags and boards.
