INVESTOR CONFIDENCE CLIMBS

Article date: 17/03/2005 : 16:46:09

After a dip in January, private investor confidence increased in February.

Fund management firm JP Morgan Fleming's investor confidence index rose 22 points in the month to a level of 82.

The survey also revealed a sense of optimism returning to the market.

Nearly forty per cent of respondents said they were positive over the future of the stock market, this is a nine per cent increase on January's findings. Less than 20 per cent were negative about the market's prospects.

The JP Morgan index is based on a 100 point score and depends on responses to whether 500 private investors surveyed believe stock market levels will be higher six months later.

February's increase has brought confidence back to its December level. Stock prices in January dipped but climbed back in February. Increases in stock market confidence and levels will have a positive effect on a number of investment bonds and savings accounts.
