UK INVESTORS UNSURE OF STOCK MARKET

Article date: 06/04/2005 : 14:50:15

Less than a third of Britons have investments in the stock market, according to a new study.

The Alliance & Leicester's research shows that only 29 per cent of the people polled held any investments and only one in ten of these investors plan to increase their existing portfolio.

Sarah Ennion, product manager, Alliance & Leicester, says that the research clearly shows that majority of investors are showing caution when investing more money.

"If customers want to take advantage of the growth potential offered by stock market investments, but are wary about losing money, they could consider products that offer them protection against stock market falls," suggests Miss Ennion.

Regionally more than a third of Londoners, 35 per cent, currently hold stock market based investments.

Alliance & Leicester polled 2,000 people for its Wealth Tracker Index and asked them if they currently held any stock market based investments; if so, when was the last time they reviewed its performance and what they planned to do with their portfolios over the next three months.
