Packing A Suitcase

Back to Holidaying Abroad

Packing your suitcase may seem the simplest of tasks, until you look at all you want to take and the small space you have to store it in. There are also a number of things that it is handy to know before you get to the airport for your holiday abroad.

Packing for your holiday abroad

When packing to go on holiday abroad, it is always best to mix up your clothes. That is, don't pack separate suitcases. If the worst happens and one goes missing, you will at least have some clothes each to be going on with until the airline finds your things. Pop a tumble dryer scented sheet into your case to keep everything smelling fresh. If you roll your clothes rather than fold them they will be less creased at the other end. Place smaller items inside shoes to make best use of your space, and finally, make sure you check the weight of your cases - going over your weight limit can be very costly.

Packing your suitcase - at the airport

If you have any medications, pack them in your hand luggage and keep them in the original packaging so that the pharmacy label can be seen. At the airport, you will be asked about carrying liquids. You are not allowed to take any liquids on to the plane over 100mls, so pack anything bigger in your suitcases. Lip glosses, perfumes, toothpaste and any other form of liquid must go in a clear plastic bag, through border control. They will charge you for a bag at the airport so be prepared and take a sandwich bag in your hand luggage.

Packing your case - when you arrive on your holiday abroad

When your luggage comes off the aeroplane, it will come off with hundreds and hundreds of other suitcases. If you have a black case, it will be very difficult to distinguish amongst everyone else’s black cases. Tie a scarf or headband to the handle of your cases so that you can easily see it when it comes off the plane, Also, don't be surprised when you see your battered and bruised case - baggage handlers aren't known for their delicate handling of your cases.
